10-Activities to Help Seniors with Memory & Problem Solving
Depending on a senior’s current memory and problem solving ability, participating in activities that encourage and challenge memory and problem solving are a good way to improve these skills for seniors while helping them maintain a measure of quality of life in a facility or a new home. Activities that a senior is known to enjoy will also encourage meaningful participation. 1). Complete word searches
2). Perform supervised or modified home making activities
3). Complete cross word puzzles
4). Play card games of value (Solitaire, Pinochle, Poker, Twenty-one)
5). Create grocery lists
6). Cut coupons from the newspaper or retrieve them from a coupon box for shopping
7). Assist safely with meals (setting table places for meals, mixing pre-measured ingredients for a recipe, make a salad, top a pizza)
8). Games and activities with children (memory games, simple math games)
9). Attend to plants (watering, dead heading)
10). Participate in bill paying (stamping and sealing envelopes, reading and communicating the amount due and to whom)
